Getting to our French home

So is THIS France?

We claimed all of our luggage and proceeded through customs. We found a special phone to call for our car.  We waited outside for the van that took us to our car. It was cold and dreary. We finally arrived at our car. It was a nice shiny new grey car with red plates. Most of the bags went into the trunk but I got to ride in the back seat and look out of the window. I felt very lucky.

The car had little fuel in it so we stopped at the first gas station we saw. It was small, dirty and had gasoline types I had never heard of. We filled the car with something called gazole. It is the French diesel and it is cheaper than essence, which is American regular gas. We continued our trip. I found out that we would be in the car at least 5 to 6 hours depending on the traffic on the peripherique in Paris.

Time to get comfortable for the car ridethinking

I settled into my bag and decided to enjoy this very long car trip. The first thing I noticed was that motorcycles darted in and out between cars and also rode in between two cars but never in any lane. This frightenednail biting me. They were so close to my window that I could see the face of the rider. The car was very small. After about an hour I got used to this madness especially since our car had not gone very far. The traffic moved very slowly. After a long time, we left Paris and this madness. We were out on the open road. Instead of old dark dirty buildings, there were fields and fields of yellow stuff. I later found out that it was rapeseed called canola seed in the United States. It was so beautiful. I had never seen so many miles of fields and farms. There were no people. We stopped several times to rest and buy food. The rest stops were always noisy, crowded and dirty. I began to think France was dirty.

We FINALLY arrivebig grin

After six long exciting hours we arrived in a very small quaint French village. We pulled into a very narrow tight driveway made of crushed stone.  The door to the house was already open and the luggage was carried inside. This must be where we will be staying for May I thought. It was very, very small! It had large orange flowered wallpaper everywhere including the ceiling in the bedroom. The only room besides the bathroom and bedroom was smaller than my bedroom in the United States. This room had a stove, sink, table, television and a refrigerator. The bed was made and the luggage was placed on it and unpacked. I could see by how quickly and smoothly this was accomplished that this was routine. I was placed on a shelf above the bed. I found  out very shortly why I was on a shelf and not on the bed. A small white dog suddenly appeared. The dog belongs to the people upstairs. My Momy called them MAMAN and PAPA. I was glad to be up high where the dog could not reach me.

It is late and I am tiredyawn

I was alone for a while and I could see them eating dinner. It was still very light outside but since I did not know what time it was this did not surprise me. I later found out that in this part of France in May it was light for many more hours than at home. I liked that because I could see things clearly for many more hours.

Soon it was time for bed. I was removed from the shelf and put onto the bed where my Momy hugged me all night. I loved it. I fell asleep quickly since I was so very tired from what seemed like many days of non-stop adventures. I slept soundly for many hours. Even the bright light outside did not wake me up.
